Math 2410 TEST 3 will be on MONDAY DECEMBER 7 (based on HW for Chapters 4, 5 and 6) will have problems based on the following questions. One two-sided hand-written page of notes and a printed page of Laplace transforms are allowed. Calculators are not allowed.

  1. Forced harmonic oscillators (sections 4.1 and 4.2). Amplitude of the steady state (section 4.4).
  2. Resonance (section 4.3).
  3. Equilibrium point analysis for nonlinear systems (section 5.1).
  4. Solving first and second order differential equations using Laplace transforms, including impulse forcing, Heaviside step functions and Dirac delta functions (sections 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4).

Other resources besides the textbook, HW and the Q-center: much of the material for this test is related to Calculus. There are lots of places on the internet that can provide some help. Wolfram alpha can solve many of the problems. The linear approximation is covered in calculus. The best calculus textbook is by Stewart. Concerning differential equations, there are video lectures recorded at UConn and MIT. However note that these videos do not substitute for doing the HW.
