Brief Description
This course covers the subject matter of MATH 227 from an enhanced standpoint and in a much more general context, that of a linear space (also called a vector space) over an abstract field of scalars. The key ideas are linear functions, linear dependence and independence, dimension, representation by matrices, effect of change of basis, and canonical forms when the scalars are the complex numbers. As in MATH 227, elementary row operations play a significant role. Proofs written by students are an integral part of the class.
Homework Problems
The homework problems will be posted continually as lectures go on.
