Mathematics 2360

 Geometry

Section 1

Spring, 2013

Instructor: Bill Abikoff

Text: Foundations of Geometry, 2nd Edition, by Gerard Venema

Meeting times: 11 to 12:15 TuTh in MSB 403.

This course is designed to provide high school teachers with the geometric insights needed by their students and, even more, to give them sufficiently much knowledge that they could excite and motivate their students. To wit, the course makes few demands on its students in terms of prerequisites. It is a course designed for preparation of K-12 teachers but it developed a conflicting interest. Students took the course to satisfy a mathematics minor requirement. THE GRADING SCHEME IS BASED ON PLACING ONLY QUALIFIED PEOPLE AS TEACHERS OF HIGH SCHOOL GEOMETRY COURSES.

I mentioned in the first class that there is an interesting article on high school education. The URL is

Also, a professor in California has written some notes which complement the Venema book. That URL is

The course is being phased off the list of courses that can be used to satisfy a mathematics minor.

New and important is a place where I'll put items as needed.
